HOUSTON--Fresh off a two game winning streak, the Houston Cougars offense continues to blaze as they racked up 566 yards of total offense to extinguish the University of Alabama-Birmingham Blazers 39-17.
The one-two punch of Houston did most of the damage . Quarterback David Piland completed 32 of 44 passes for 364 yards and a touchdown, while running back Charles Sims rushed for 133 yards on 26 carries, marking his third-straight performance of more than 100 yards --ironically, all three wins. If the one-two punch wasn't enough wide receiver Shane Ros turned in another stellar performance with career highs of seven receptions for 114 yards and his first touchdown as a Cougar. Plus kicker Matt Hogan set a CUSA record by hitting six field goals. On the other side of the ball, the Houston's defense continues to improve sacking UAB quarterback Austin Brown eight times while being dominant for most of the second half before allowing a touchdown late in the game.
